BJCTA Accessibility Information
All BJCTA buses meet Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements, offering wheelchair lifts and other features to accommodate riders with disabilities.
BJCTA buses offer wheelchair lifts. By ADA standards, wheelchairs must be secured on buses. Seats near the front door are generally reserved for elderly and mobility-impaired passengers. Guide dogs and other service animals are permitted on BJCTA vehicles.
About one block from your stop, press one of the plastic cables (next to the windows on most buses). This signals the operator that you want to get off at the next stop.
Additional Resources and Information
The U.S. Department of Transportation is dedicated to ensuring the highest level of emergency preparedness in the event of a disaster. During an emergency, persons with disabilities may require (1) additional assistance with evacuation and (2) transportation to get to a safe place.

The goal of FTA's Safety and Security Program is to achieve the highest practical level of safety and security for all modes of transit. In order to protect passengers, employees, revenues, and property, all transit systems are encouraged to develop and implement a proactive safety program plan. FTA supports these efforts by developing guidelines and best practices, providing training and by performing system safety analyses and reviews.
On April 16, 1999, the FTA Administrator convened an interdepartmental task force of transportation professionals and safety experts to examine the Federal role in transit safety. Additionally, the industry, American Public Transportation Association (APTA), Community Transportation Association (CTAA) and the transit unions provided technical information on industry practices to the task force. The task force was charged with the development of recommendations in the areas of: operational best practices, human factors, and design standards. More information is available here.
