The Public Involvement Process

In the process of developing this plan, input was sought from the City of Birmingham and other BJCTA funding partners, BJCTA riders, human service agency customers, other service providers, regional stakeholders, operators, public, customer service and BJCTA general staff. Through the study, the public input process was guided by a Project Steering Committee that was responsible for overall direction and guidance, as well as a Transit Advisory Committee that was responsible for technical guidance. Public input was received through seven (7) public meetings in which the findings of the study were presented and input on the preliminary service recommendations was solicited.

BJCTA's Long Term Vision

As part of the development of this CTDP, project staff worked with the Project Steering Committee and the Transit Advisory Committee to create a realistic vision for BJCTA's role in the provision of public transportation services within the context of a larger region. The vision was stated as follows:

The vision for BJCTA is to become a transportation system that is seamlessly connected, offering safe, affordable, reliable, and accessible services that improves mobility, flexibility and choices for all users while supporting the social, economic, and physical health of the region's communities.

Both the Project Steering Committee and the Project Advisory Committee developed a graphic description of their vision for public transportation services within the Greater Birmingham region.
